Ways you can help us

The progress made in Rett research both in the UK and worldwide could not have happened without the families of children with Rett syndrome.

Around 80% of the many millions we’ve raised since 2010 has come from Community Fundraising, that’s Rett families, their friends and connections doing whatever they can to raise the money to keep us moving forward.

With Rett syndrome being a rare disease, one of thousands, a condition that most people have never heard of. If the families don’t take the lead then who will?

Families have so much going on in their lives that it’s often not possible to commit to fundraising, fortunately many of us have a wonderful network of family and friends who often take the strain for us.

Taking on a challenge or organising an event can be time consuming and stressful but there are plenty of other ways to ‘Get Involved’.

Here are just some of the things that YOU can do to make a difference.

Join a Reverse Rett team challenge

Each year we have a number of Reverse Rett team challenges where everyone is welcome. Like-minded people passionate Rett research have come together both in the UK and beyond taking part in treks and runs. Our teams have walked in the Sahara, Iceland, the Jurassic Coast, the Lake District, the South Coast and the Peak District and run in the Manchester Marathon, the Great North Run and the Royal Parks Half. They are great fun, hugely motivating and you will make friends for life.

Check out the Events and Challenges to find out when and where our latest team will be challenging themselves.

Take on a Fundraising Challenge

Anything is possible when it comes to taking on a fundraising challenge. The only limit is your imagination. Through our partnership with Run for Charity we have guaranteed places in hundreds of events in the UK and Europe. Simply take a look at the list, decide what you’d like to do and then us know. Reverse Rett will register you and pay for your place allowing you to focus on your training and fundraising. We don’t set a minimum fundraising amount like most charities. Our supporters are helping us because of a child they care about and we trust them to do their best. It’s worked out for us so far.

Over the years people have taken on any number of crazy fundraising challenges including sitting in a bath of freezing beans in the centre of Godalming. Sometimes the weirder your challenge the more support you get.

Hold an Event

There are lots of ways to get people involved. A cake bake at school or work, a quiz night, a race night, a dress down day are all great ways to raise money and spread awareness.

Who do you know?

Over the years we have been chosen as ‘Charity of the Year’ by a host of different businesses. They are usually due to a connection to a particular child. Many companies do this so a good way to make an impact is to ask your family and friends if this is something their employer does. It’s not just employers either, Golf Clubs, schools and many other organisations have chosen to support us for 12 months too.

Many also offer a matched funding scheme where they match any money raised by an employee.

We’ve also had companies take on team challenges for Reverse Rett. Group Metropolitan did this in 2024 in honour of Lily whose granddad works for the company.

Support a Campaign

Supporting Reverse Rett involves both fundraising and raising awareness.

Our year-round campaigns provide opportunities to do both. Whether it’s participating in October Awareness Month, pledging your birthday, or engaging in other initiatives, your involvement makes a significant difference.

The 365 Club

We set up the 365 Club in 2021. We support Rett research 365 days of the year so it seemed like the perfect name. For just £5 a month you have the chance of winning one of three cash prizes every month while supporting our work at the same time. The more members, the bigger the prizes and in just four years we’ve raised over £30,000 thanks to our members. Sign up today for the price of a fancy coffee.

Regular Monthly Donation

The money we raise from the 365 Club and regular monthly donations is the only guaranteed income we receive. Please consider making a monthly donation to Reverse Rett.

Leave a Gift in your Will

A gift in your will could transform lives for generations. It could enable us to drive research forward and make treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome a reality, it could secure ongoing research to make treatments more effective, efficient and accessible to all and it could enable early diagnosis and treatment for future generations, meaning that Rett Syndrome is no longer the life sentence it has been for so many.

It’s a simple process you just need to contact your solicitor and amend your existing will and remember that the value of your gift to Reverse Rett will be deducted from your estate before inheritance tax is applied.

By engaging in these activities, you’re contributing to vital research and offering hope to families affected by Rett Syndrome. Together, we can work towards making Rett Syndrome history.
